Organic Walnuts
Certified Organic Walnuts, Hand Harvested, Ambient Air Dried and Shipped Right After Harvest. Certified by California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF)
I have now certified a 9.5 acre orchard of Chandler walnut trees. Although I sell the bulk of them to an organic walnut processor, I have a limited supply of hand picked, ambient air dried certified organic walnuts from this orchard until sold out for the year. 3 lb Certified Organic Chandler Walnuts In Shell | Ambient Air Dried, Hand Harvested | Fall 2025 Crop
Certified Organic Chandler Walnuts from the 9.5 acre organic orchard I manage across the road from our family farm. Hand gleaned, ambient air dried, and shipped directly after harvest and drying. Cost includes shipping. Typically shipped by early November, perhaps a bit earlier. Selling primarily as pre-order only since the bulk of this crop will be mechanically harvested and sold to a processor. I may keep a few extra pounds to sell throughout the year, but they will likely be significantly more pricey. Note that these prices include shipping, making them far more affordable than most organic walnuts. It's a once a year thing. They ship in just a plain cardboard box. There is nothing fancy about the walnuts. They are unbleached, so there may be some staining and discoloration. If you've actually gleaned walnuts by hand you know what they look like before bleaching and polishing like they do for the grocery store. Some may still have some field dirt on them due to the way we harvest and dry them without running through a commercial huller and dryer. This is the old-fashioned way... the way I remember my grandpa doing it when I was a kid. No electricity, no propane dryers, just the sun and wind. Thank you for making that kind of hands on agriculture pay the bills. Expect 10-15% dark nuts or blanks and some tip shrivel, which is typical of Chandler walnuts. Pictures are from a random sample crack out from this harvest, but please do note that the percentages will vary box to box, although the quality is outstanding this year overall. There are inevitably some imperfect nuts when buying in shell, so please understand that prior to ordering. Also for those who ask, yes these are guaranteed non-GMO. Anything certified organic is non-GMO by requirement. Also, at the time of writing this there are currently no GMO walnut trees yet, and these trees were planted a couple decades ago using traditionally bred and propagated Chandler walnuts with black walnut root stock.

8 lb Certified Organic Chandler Walnuts In Shell | Ambient Air Dried, Hand Harvested | Fall 2025 Crop
THE DESCRIPTION BELOW IS FROM LAST YEAR's crop. READ IT. This year's (October 2026) crop can be expected to be similar, but not exactly the same. I would say that due to growing conditions, overall size may be slightly lower, there may be a slightly higher percentage chance light sunburn darkening of nut meat or tip shrivel, and slightly lower percent chance insect damage. How clean and bright the exterior of the nut looks depends on weather conditions mostly. ORDERS WILL BE SHIPPED OUT IN THE ORDER RECEIVED, meaning first orders placed will be filled first, then second, third, etc.Certified Organic Chandler Walnuts from the 9.5 acre organic orchard I manage across the road from our family farm. There is nothing fancy about the presentation, but it's hard to find walnuts like this. They are unbleached, so there may be some staining and discoloration. Some may still have some field dirt on them due to the way we harvest and dry them without running through a commercial huller and dryer. This is the old-fashioned way... the way I remember my grandpa doing it when I was a kid. No electricity, no propane dryers, just a lot of hand labor and the sun and wind. Thank you for making that kind of hands on agriculture pay the bills. Expect 10-15% dark nuts or blanks and SOME TIP SHRIVEL, which is typical of Chandler walnuts. Tip shrivel is when the skin on the edges of the nut meat don't fill out all the way. It has nothing to do with the nuts being old or over dried, it has to do with growing conditions and the variety. Chandlers are the dominant commercial variety due to light color, ability to maintain light color in heat, high meat yield, and thin shell. But they do tend to have more tip shrivel than other varieties, and in the opinion of my Uncle (a 40 year + experienced commercial grower) have a slightly lower oil content. Just be aware, especially if you grew up eating for example Hartley or Franquette walnuts and haven't had any walnuts since.
